Description
Tobradex Ointment contains a combination of two medications: tobramycin, an antibiotic, and dexamethasone, a corticosteroid. It is used to treat bacterial eye infections and reduce inflammation.
Tobramycin works by killing or inhibiting the growth of bacteria that cause eye infections. Dexamethasone reduces inflammation, redness, and swelling in the eye. This combination is used when there is a risk of bacterial infection or when an infection is present along with inflammation.
Tobradex ointment is typically prescribed for the treatment of:
- Bacterial eye infections with inflammation.
- Post-operative inflammation following eye surgery.
- Other inflammatory eye conditions where there is a risk of bacterial infection.

Directions for use: Always use Tobradex ointment exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Wash your hands thoroughly before applying the ointment. Gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch. Apply a thin ribbon of ointment inside the lower eyelid. Close your eyes gently for one to two minutes. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
Important Information: Tobradex ointment is a prescription medication. Inform your doctor if you have any allergies to tobramycin, dexamethasone, or any other ingredients in the ointment. Disclose your medical history, particularly if you have glaucoma, cataracts, or herpes simplex infection of the eye. Long-term use of steroids can increase the risk of glaucoma or cataracts. Do not wear contact lenses while using Tobradex ointment. Tobradex can cause side effects, including burning, stinging, itching, blurred vision, and increased eye pressure. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are using, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements, as interactions can occur. Do not touch the tip of the tube to any surface, including your eye, to avoid contamination. Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature away from moisture and light.
