Description
Lidocaine 5% Ointment contains lidocaine as its active ingredient. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that works by blocking nerve signals in your body. When applied topically, it provides temporary relief of pain, itching, and discomfort in the area of application.
Lidocaine 5% ointment can be used for a variety of conditions, including:
- Minor burns and scrapes
- Insect bites
- Poison ivy, oak, or sumac
- Hemorrhoids and anal fissures
- Pain associated with minor skin irritations
- To numb the skin before certain medical procedures (e.g., injections, minor surgery)
The ointment formulation allows for easy application and helps to keep the medication in contact with the skin for localized relief.
Lidocaine 5% Ointment is indicated for the temporary relief of local discomfort and itching associated with minor burns, sunburn, minor cuts, scrapes, insect bites, and minor skin irritations. It may also be used for anorectal disorders and to anesthetize the skin prior to certain procedures.
Directions for use: Apply a thin layer of Lidocaine 5% Ointment to the affected area as needed, or as directed by your doctor or the product label. For anorectal disorders, apply externally to the affected area up to six times daily. When used prior to a procedure, apply as directed by your healthcare provider. Wash your hands after applying the ointment, unless you are treating your hands.
Important Information: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not apply to large areas of skin or use on broken or irritated skin without consulting a doctor. Do not use under a bandage or dressing unless directed by your doctor. If your condition worsens or does not improve within 7 days, or if symptoms clear up and occur again within a few days, discontinue use and consult a doctor. Keep out of reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Store at room temperature.
