Description
Ezechol 10Mg 30Tabs contains 10 milligrams of ezetimibe per tablet, provided in a pack of 30 tablets. Ezetimibe is a medication that lowers cholesterol levels in the blood. It works by inhibiting the absorption of cholesterol from the small intestine into the bloodstream. This reduces the amount of cholesterol that is available to the body, which can help to lower total cholesterol, LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, and triglycerides, while potentially increasing HDL (“good”) cholesterol.
Ezechol is indicated for use in adults and children aged 10 years and older:
- As an adjunct to diet for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and non-HDL cholesterol in patients with primary (heterozygous familial and non-familial) hypercholesterolemia.
- In combination with a statin for additive reduction of LDL cholesterol in patients with primary (heterozygous familial and non-familial) hypercholesterolemia when treatment with a statin alone is not sufficient.
- In patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, as an adjunct to other lipid-lowering treatments (e.g., LDL apheresis) or alone if such treatments are unavailable, to reduce total and LDL cholesterol.
- As an adjunct to diet for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in patients with homozygous sitosterolemia (phytosterolemia).
Directions for Use:
The usual dose of Ezechol is one 10mg tablet taken orally once daily. You can take Ezechol with or without food. It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions carefully regarding the dosage and timing of administration.
If your doctor has prescribed Ezechol in combination with a statin, you can take both medications at the same time or at different times of the day, as directed by your doctor.
Continue to take Ezechol for as long as your doctor prescribes it. Do not stop taking the medication or change your dose without consulting your doctor, even if your cholesterol levels improve.
Ezechol should be used in conjunction with a cholesterol-lowering diet. Follow any dietary recommendations provided by your doctor or a registered dietitian.
Precautions:
- Inform your doctor if you have any known allergies to ezetimibe or any other ingredients in Ezechol.
- Provide your doctor with your complete medical history, especially if you have a history of liver problems. Your doctor may perform blood tests to check your liver function before and during treatment with Ezechol, especially if you are also taking a statin.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are planning to become pregnant. It is not known if Ezechol can harm an unborn baby or pass into breast milk. Your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of using Ezechol during these times.
- Inform your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking, as there may be potential interactions. In particular, tell your doctor if you are taking bile acid sequestrants (such as cholestyramine or colesevelam), as these medications should be taken at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after taking Ezechol.
- The safety and effectiveness of Ezechol in children under 10 years of age have not been established.
- In clinical studies, the most common side effects reported with Ezechol alone were headache, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. When used with a statin, common side effects also included fatigue and muscle pain. Tell your doctor if you experience any persistent or bothersome side effects.
- Keep this medication out of the reach of children. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
- Store Ezechol tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
Regular monitoring of your cholesterol levels through blood tests is important while you are taking Ezechol to assess its effectiveness. Lifestyle changes, such as following a healthy diet and exercising regularly, are also important for managing cholesterol levels.
