Description
Euthyrox 25Mg 100Tab contains 25 micrograms (mcg) of levothyroxine sodium per tablet, provided in a pack of 100 tablets. Levothyroxine sodium is a synthetic form of thyroxine (T4), a naturally occurring thyroid hormone. It is used as hormone replacement therapy in individuals whose thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone, a condition known as hypothyroidism.
Euthyrox (levothyroxine sodium) is indicated for the treatment of:
- Hypothyroidism of any etiology (primary, secondary, or tertiary).
- Suppression of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in the treatment or prevention of various types of goiters and thyroid nodules, as well as in the management of thyroid cancer.
Directions for Use:
The dosage of Euthyrox tablets is highly individualized and will be determined by your doctor based on your specific condition, thyroid function tests (TSH, T4), age, weight, and overall health. It is crucial to follow your doctor’s instructions precisely regarding the dose and timing of administration.
Euthyrox tablets should be taken orally once daily, preferably on an empty stomach, 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast. This helps to ensure consistent absorption of the medication.
Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablets.
Consistency in taking Euthyrox at the same time each day is important for maintaining stable thyroid hormone levels in your body.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Do not stop taking Euthyrox or change your dose without consulting your doctor, as this can lead to a recurrence of hypothyroid symptoms or other complications.
Precautions:
- Inform your doctor if you have any known allergies to levothyroxine sodium or any other ingredients in the product.
- Provide your doctor with your complete medical history, especially if you have a history of heart problems (such as angina, heart attack, or irregular heartbeats), high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, adrenal gland problems, or any thyroid conditions other than hypothyroidism.
- Levothyroxine should be used with caution in individuals with pre-existing cardiovascular disease, as it can increase heart rate and blood pressure, especially when starting treatment or increasing the dose.
- Inform your doctor if you experience any symptoms of hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) such as rapid heartbeat, palpitations, weight loss, increased appetite, heat intolerance, sweating, nervousness, irritability, or tremors. These may indicate that your dose of levothyroxine is too high.
- Certain medications can affect the absorption or metabolism of levothyroxine, and levothyroxine can also affect the way other medications work. Inform your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking, including antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, and certain cholesterol-lowering drugs. Your doctor may need to adjust the timing of when you take these medications relative to your Euthyrox dose.
- Soy products, walnuts, and dietary fiber can also interfere with the absorption of levothyroxine. Consume these in moderation and consistently with respect to your Euthyrox dose.
- Regular monitoring of your thyroid hormone levels through blood tests is essential to ensure that you are receiving the correct dose of Euthyrox. Your doctor will adjust your dosage as needed based on these test results and your clinical response.
- If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, it is important to continue taking levothyroxine as prescribed. Your dosage may need to be adjusted during pregnancy. Inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.
- Levothyroxine passes into breast milk, but it is generally considered safe for breastfeeding women. However, consult your doctor before breastfeeding while taking Euthyrox.
- Keep this medication out of the reach of children. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of overdose may include those of hyperthyroidism.
- Store Euthyrox 25Mg Tablets in a dry place at room temperature (15-30°C or 59-86°F), protected from light.
Adherence to your prescribed Euthyrox regimen and regular follow-up with your doctor are crucial for the effective management of hypothyroidism.
