Description
Emanera 40Mg 28Cap contains 40 milligrams of esomeprazole per capsule, provided in a pack of 28 capsules. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. It achieves this by specifically blocking the hydrogen/potassium ATPase enzyme system (the proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells. By inhibiting this pump, esomeprazole effectively decreases gastric acid secretion, providing relief and promoting healing in conditions related to excessive stomach acid.
Emanera 40Mg is indicated for the treatment of:
- Severe Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), including the healing of erosive esophagitis.
- Long-term management of conditions that involve excessive stomach acid production, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
- Maintenance treatment after healing of erosive esophagitis to prevent relapse.
- In combination with appropriate antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in patients with peptic ulcer disease.
- Prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers associated with continuous NSAID therapy in patients at high risk.
Directions for Use:
The dosage and duration of treatment with Emanera 40Mg will be determined by your doctor based on your specific condition and its severity. For healing erosive esophagitis, the usual dose is 40 mg once daily for a specific period. For maintenance therapy or other conditions, the dosage may vary. Always follow your doctor’s instructions precisely.
Emanera capsules should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food. However, taking it at least one hour before a meal is often recommended for optimal effect. If you have difficulty swallowing capsules, you can open the capsule and mix the granules with a small amount of water or applesauce. Swallow the mixture immediately without chewing, and do not store it for later use. Follow with a glass of water to ensure all the medication is taken. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Precautions:
- Inform your doctor if you have any allergies to esomeprazole, other proton pump inhibitors (such as omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, rabeprazole), or any other ingredients in Emanera capsules.
- Provide your doctor with your complete medical history, particularly if you have liver problems, kidney problems, or a history of low magnesium levels in your blood.
- Long-term use of PPIs, especially at high doses and for extended durations (longer than one year), may increase the risk of hip, wrist, and spine fractures. Use Emanera 40Mg at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with your treatment goals.
- Prolonged daily use of PPIs may lead to hypomagnesemia (low magnesium levels in the blood), which can sometimes be serious. Your doctor may monitor your magnesium levels, especially if you are on long-term treatment or taking other medications that can lower magnesium.
- PPI therapy may be associated with an increased risk of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea. Report any persistent, watery diarrhea to your doctor immediately.
- Long-term PPI use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency due to reduced absorption.
- Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal supplements, as interactions can occur. Some medications that may interact with esomeprazole include warfarin, clopidogrel, methotrexate, digoxin, rifampicin, and certain antifungal medications (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole).
- If you are taking Emanera 40Mg as part of an H. pylori eradication regimen, it is crucial to complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor.
- Consult your doctor before taking Emanera if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- Keep this medication out of the reach of children. In case of accidental overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of overdose may include confusion, drowsiness, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, and flushing.
- Store Emanera 40Mg capsules at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.
It is important to take Emanera 40Mg exactly as prescribed by your doctor and for the full duration of treatment recommended. Do not stop taking it or change your dose without consulting your doctor, even if your symptoms improve. Regular follow-up appointments with your doctor are essential to monitor your condition and the effectiveness of your treatment.
