Description

Duetact 30/2Mg 30Tab is a combination oral medication used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Each tablet contains two active ingredients:

  • Pioglitazone Hydrochloride: Equivalent to 30 milligrams of pioglitazone. Pioglitazone is a thiazolidinedione (TZD) that works primarily by increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin. It helps to lower blood glucose levels by improving the uptake and utilization of glucose by peripheral tissues (such as muscle and fat) and by reducing glucose production in the liver.
  • Glimepiride: 2 milligrams. Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that works by stimulating the beta cells in the pancreas to release more insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps glucose move from the bloodstream into cells for energy.

By combining these two different mechanisms of action, Duetact 30/2Mg helps to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes who are not adequately controlled on either pioglitazone or a sulfonylurea alone.

Directions for Use:

The dosage of Duetact 30/2Mg is typically one tablet taken orally once daily. It is usually recommended to take the tablet with the first main meal of the day. Always follow your doctor’s instructions carefully regarding the dosage and timing of administration. Do not crush or chew the tablets; swallow them whole with a glass of water. Your doctor may adjust your dosage based on your blood glucose levels and response to treatment.

Precautions:

  • Inform your doctor if you have any allergies to pioglitazone, glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, or any other ingredients in Duetact tablets.
  • Provide your doctor with your complete medical history, especially if you have heart failure or a history of heart problems, liver disease, kidney disease, diabetic ketoacidosis, macular edema, or a history of bladder cancer.
  • Pioglitazone can cause or worsen heart failure in some patients. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms such as shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, or swelling of the ankles or legs.
  • Glimepiride can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Be aware of the symptoms of low blood sugar, which may include sweating, shakiness, dizziness, confusion, hunger, and rapid heartbeat. Your doctor may advise you on how to manage low blood sugar episodes.
  • Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is essential while taking Duetact. Your doctor may also recommend periodic blood tests to monitor your liver function and other parameters.
  • Weight gain may occur with pioglitazone treatment. Discuss strategies to manage your weight with your doctor.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol consumption while taking Duetact, as it can affect blood sugar control.
  • Inform your doctor if you are planning to have surgery or any medical procedures.
  • Consult your doctor before taking Duetact if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Keep this medication out of the reach of children. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
  • Store Duetact 30/2Mg tablets at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.

Duetact is intended to be used as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan that includes diet and exercise. It is important to follow your doctor’s recommendations for diet, exercise, and regular medical check-ups while taking this medication.
