Description
Doxydar 100Mg 10Cap contains 100 milligrams of doxycycline per capsule, provided in a pack of 10 capsules. Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping the growth and spread of susceptible bacteria. It is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as other microorganisms. Doxydar 100Mg capsules are commonly prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including:
- Respiratory tract infections: Such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
- Skin and soft tissue infections: Such as acne, cellulitis, and boils.
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs): Such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs).
- Tick-borne diseases: Such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
- Malaria prevention and treatment.
- Rosacea.
Doxycycline is also sometimes used for other infections as determined by a healthcare professional.
Directions for Use:
The usual dosage of Doxydar 100Mg for adults is typically one capsule every 12 hours or once daily, depending on the type and severity of the infection being treated. Always follow your doctor’s instructions carefully regarding the dosage, frequency, and duration of treatment. Swallow the capsules whole with a full glass of water. Do not lie down immediately after taking doxycycline, as this can increase the risk of esophageal irritation. Doxycycline can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food or milk may help to reduce the chance of stomach upset. However, avoid taking it with dairy products rich in calcium, as calcium can interfere with the absorption of doxycycline.
Precautions:
- Inform your doctor if you have any allergies to doxycycline, other tetracycline antibiotics (such as tetracycline, minocycline), or any other medications.
- Provide your doctor with your complete medical history, especially if you have kidney disease, liver disease, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), or a history of increased intracranial pressure.
- Doxycycline can cause photosensitivity, making your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight or artificial UV light (such as tanning beds) and wear protective clothing and sunscreen when outdoors.
- In children under 8 years of age, doxycycline may cause permanent tooth discoloration (yellowing, graying, or browning). It should only be used in this age group if the potential benefits outweigh the risks, such as in the treatment of serious or life-threatening conditions.
- Doxycycline can interact with other medications, including antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium; iron supplements; bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol); and blood thinners like warfarin. Inform your doctor about all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal supplements you are currently taking.
- Consult your doctor before taking Doxydar if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Doxycycline can harm a developing fetus and may pass into breast milk.
- If you experience severe diarrhea, especially if it is watery or bloody, while taking or after finishing Doxydar, contact your doctor immediately as this could be a sign of a serious intestinal infection called Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD).
- Keep this medication out of the reach of children. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
- Store Doxydar 100Mg capsules at room temperature, away from heat, light, and moisture.
It is important to complete the full course of antibiotic treatment as prescribed by your doctor, even if you start to feel better before the medication is finished. Stopping treatment early may allow the bacteria to continue to grow, leading to a relapse of the infection.
