Description
Alphagan P Eye Drops contain brimonidine tartrate, an alpha-adrenergic agonist. It is used to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Brimonidine works by decreasing the production of fluid within the eye and increasing the outflow of fluid from the eye.
Uses:
- Lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
Dosage and Administration:
The usual dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily, approximately 8 hours apart. Wash your hands thoroughly before use. Do not let the dropper tip touch any surface, including your eye. Tilt your head back, pull down your lower eyelid to create a pocket, and instill one drop. Close your eyes gently and apply light pressure to the inner corner of your eye for about 1-2 minutes. Follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor.
Warnings:
- Do not use if you are allergic to brimonidine tartrate or any of the other ingredients.
- Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, depression, or renal or hepatic impairment.
- This medication may cause drowsiness or blurred vision. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
- Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications and herbal supplements, as they may interact with brimonidine.
- Remove contact lenses before instilling the drops. Wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Possible Side Effects:
- Ocular hyperemia (redness of the eye).
- Burning or stinging sensation.
- Blurred vision.
- Dry mouth.
- Drowsiness.
- Headache.
- Fatigue.
